1. Be in the world but yet away from it’s tentacles

  • There is no need to retire into a forest or a cave to know your inner Truth and to conquer your lower nature. As a matter of fact, you have no chance to exercise your anger there, so victory achieved there may not be lasting or genuine. Win the battle of life; be in the world but yet away from its tentacles. That is the victory for which you deserve congratulations.

2. The House of the Lord

  • I want that you should all build new houses for happy living, and install the Lord therein. I do not mean houses of brick and mortar, but houses of good thoughts, good words, good deeds and good company, where you could live calm and collected. Invite Me for the Grihapravesham (entering the new house ceremonially), of such houses and I shall most readily agree. In fact, then, the house is Mine already and I do not need even an invitation to come and enter it. These houses are for worldly comfort; that house is for spiritual joy. And My Place of Residence is the pure, aspiring heart.

3. Past deeds affect the present

  • Our present condition and circumstances are decided by deeds done in previous lives. In a similar manner, the conditions in which we have to spend the future are determined by what we are doing now. Between one life and another, one death and the next, the individual either progresses or regresses, expands or shrinks. Like a frail ship caught in a stormy sea, one climbs the froth-rimmed peak of some gigantic wave and, the next moment, is hurled with terrific speed into the deepest trough. The rise and fall result inevitably from good and bad deeds

4. Religion is Experience

  • Theistic faith is based on genuine experience. Once this is accepted, self-examination starts and one is able to measure how far one has journeyed towards or away from the goal. One will then realize that one is groping in the dark and dragging others into the darkness to grope with one. Only then will people give up factional hatreds in the name of religious war on those professing different faiths.

5. Food must be transformed into service

  • Every person consumes quantifies of food, but does not stop to calculate what he does in return to the society that helped him to live; the food must be transformed into service, either of one's best interest, or of the interests of others. You should not be a burden on others or an enemy of yourself. Mere care of the body is profitless, for the body is only a container, a despised container, once the spark of Divinity which it contains, goes out.
  • BABA (Sathya Sai Speaks Vol 4, Chapter 3)

6. My place is among you, with you

  • There is a chair on the dais for Me, but I occupied it only for a short while; for My place is among you, with you and wherever work lies. That is why I moved amongst you and stood behind you, at the back. This is just to show you that, even in your own places, when you do bhajan or some other type of adoration, like serving children or the sick or the poor, I do not sit on a special seat, apart and distant. Do not believe I am on the pedestal that you offer Me; I am a part of you, a partner and partaker in all your efforts, inspiring and instructing, when you ask or need inspiration and instruction.

7. The Atma, the eternal Self.

  • The children of India (Bharathiyas) believe that they are, each one, the Atma, the eternal Self. They are aware that the Atma cannot be cut in twain by the sword, that fire cannot burn It, that water cannot wet It, and that the wind cannot dry It. The Atma has no bounds. Its centre is in the body, but it’s circumference is nowhere. Death means that the Atma has shifted from one body to another. This is the belief that every Indian has, firmly in mind

8. God is and can be, only One

  • God is and can be, only One, not more! "There is only One God and He is Omnipresent! There is only One Religion, the religion of Love. There is only One Language, the language of the Heart." This God has to be visualised by means of constant spiritual discipline. Do not involve yourselves in doubts and hesitations. If only you observe the disciplines and purify the Consciousness, you can see the God installed in your heart.

9. Practise a fraction of what you preach

  • People talk loud and long from all kinds of platforms about right conduct, divine love, peace, compassion, truth (dharma, prema, shaanthi, daya, satya), etc.; this gets published in the newspaper the next day and there their purpose ends. The paper of today is waste paper tomorrow! It is used for packing, thrown into the dust-heap, and burnt as refuse. That is the story of all platform professions. Put into practice a fraction of what you preach.
  • BABA (Sathya Sai Speaks Vol 4, Chapter 3)

10. One royal road for the spiritual journey

  • There is only one royal road for the spiritual journey - ‘Love’, love for all beings, as a manifestation of the same Divinity that is the very core of oneself. This faith alone can ensure the constant presence of God with you, and endow you with all the joy and courage you need to fulfil the pilgrimage to God.
